Nagoya Chapter Hosts Civic Reception for Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer

An elderly man with a white beard, wearing a cream-colored vest over a white kurta and a white cap, speaks passionately at a podium with a raised hand while gesturing with his index finger, in front of a green banner with Bengali text reading "নাগরিক সংবর্ধনা" (Civic Reception); several men are seated at a flower-decorated head table beside him, and two men stand near the wall at the back of the room.

Islamic Mission Japan's Nagoya Chapter organized a large civic reception on behalf of the Bangladeshi community for Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Leader of the Opposition in the Bangladesh Parliament and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, at the Shibukawa Welfare Center on Tuesday, May 5. The event opened with a recitation from the Qur'an and was moderated by Dr. Majedul Islam, Central Vice President of Islamic Mission Japan.

The gathering brought together community leaders, university teachers, researchers, students and professionals from the wider Bangladeshi community across Nagoya and Aichi Prefecture. Special guests included Jamaat-e-Islami central executive council member Saiful Alam Khan Milon, MP, and Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, MP, foreign affairs adviser to the Leader of the Opposition, both of whom addressed the audience alongside Dr. Rahman.

In his remarks, Dr. Rahman thanked the expatriate community for its role during last year's mass uprising and its continued support for Bangladesh's economy, and pledged to work with the government on the release of detained expatriate workers in the UAE as well as other community concerns. Alongside the reception, the chapter organized a pitha (traditional cake) festival with wide participation from attendees of all backgrounds, along with an Islamic cultural program for children. Islamic Mission Japan Central President Hafez Maulana Saber Ahmed closed the program, thanking the Nagoya community for the event and reaffirming the organization's continued support for the Bangladeshi community in Japan.
