IMJ

This page explains what personal information Islamic Mission Japan ("IMJ") collects through this website, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and how you can access, correct, or delete it. It is intended to meet the requirements of Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information (個人情報保護法).

Information we collect

Contact form: your name, email address, and message, plus which type of enquiry you selected.

Member accounts: your name, email address, and password, plus an optional phone number, chapter preference, area of interest, and message if you fill them in when you join.

Comments and book reviews: the text you submit, linked to your member account.

Technical information: to prevent spam and abuse, we keep a cryptographic hash of the IP address used to submit a form or comment — not the IP address itself — along with your browser’s user-agent string.

Why we collect it

To respond to enquiries sent through the contact form and route volunteering interest to the right chapter.

To let members comment on news, events and other content, and review books, once their email address is verified.

To detect and block spam and abusive submissions.

To send you emails about your own account — verifying your email, resetting your password, moderation decisions on your comments and reviews, and a warning before a dormant account is anonymised (see below).

How long we keep it

Contact form submissions are kept for 24 months, then automatically deleted.

Member accounts are kept for as long as you use them. An account that hasn’t been logged into for 23 months receives a warning email; if there’s still no login a month later, the account is anonymised (see below).

Comments and book reviews stay published

When your account is deleted or anonymised, comments and reviews that were already approved and published stay online — including any reply from IMJ underneath them — so public discussions aren’t broken. They’re credited to “Former member” instead of your name. Anything still awaiting moderation at that point is deleted, not published.

Deleting your account

You can delete your own account at any time from your account page. This anonymises your account immediately, the same way the 24-month inactivity process above does: your name, email, phone number and message are erased, and your password is reset to something nobody knows.

Your rights

Under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, you can ask us to disclose, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to stop using it. Contact us at info@islamicmission.or.jp and we’ll respond as quickly as we can.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the website changes. Significant changes will be reflected on this page.
