Kanagawa to Host Regional Round of International Qur'an Recitation Competition 2026

Islamic Mission Japan's Kanagawa Branch will host the Kanagawa regional round of the International Qur'an Recitation Competition 2026 at Sagamihara Eidgah Mosque on Saturday, August 22, starting at 7:00pm after Maghrib prayer. The event is organised by the Islamic Cultural Foundation Japan (ICFJ) and hosted locally by IMJ's Kanagawa Branch.
The competition aims to nurture a love of the Qur'an among children and young people, encourage accurate and beautiful recitation, and give young reciters a platform to showcase their talent. Entrants will compete in three age categories: 3-6 years, 7-12 years, and 13 years and above, with the oldest category open to boys only.
Every child who takes part will receive a gift, and top performers selected from regional rounds held across Japan will go on to compete in a national final round. Parents wishing to enter their children must register in advance using the online registration form; organisers have also provided contact numbers for anyone with questions.
IMJ is encouraging families across the Kanagawa area to take part and support the event, describing it as an opportunity to bring the light of the Qur'an into children's lives and nurture their recitation abilities from an early age.
